In the movie “Where the Heart is,” Sister Husband reflects, “Folks read too much of it [the Bible]. They just get confused. That’s why I like to hand out just one chapter at a time. That way, folks can deal with their confusion as it comes.” While I don’t think most folks read too much of the Bible, sometimes we just need something short and sweet to get us through. That’s why I’ve added the “quick quotes” page–for when you just need a little pick me up.

The Lord’s Way

“The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature.” ~ Ezra Taft Benson

” But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” ~ 1 Samuel 16:7

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ~ Isaiah 55:8-9

Ability

“The Lord does not ask us about our ability, but only about our availability. And then, if we demonstrate our dependability, the Lord will increase our capability.” ~ Neal A. Maxwell

Hope

“Hope is one leg of a three-legged stool, together with faith and charity. These three stabilize our lives regardless of the rough or uneven surfaces we might encounter at the time.” ~ Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Self-Worth

“The Lord did not people the earth with a vibrant orchestra of personalities only to value the piccolos…” ~ Joseph B. Wirthlin

Prayer

“Too often, I think we pray from off the top of our head instead of from out of the depths of our soul” ~ Ann Madsen

“Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint upon his knees.” ~ William Cowper

“…for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” ~ Hebrews 11:6

Attitude

“Let us not justify ourselves in a casual effort. Let us not be content to retain some disposition to do evil.” ~Elder D. Todd Christofferson

“As someone once said, ‘Even in the golden age of civilization someone undoubtably grumbled that everything was too yellow.’…Yes, life has its problems, and yes there are negative things to face, but please accept one of Elder Holland’s maxims for living–no misfortune is so bad that whining about it won’t make it worse.” ~ Elder Jeffery R. Holland (emphasis added)

Marriage

“Spouses are not a soloist with an accompanist, nor are they two solos. They are the interdependent parts of a duet, singing together in harmony at a level where no solo can go.” ~ Bruce and Marie Hafen

Justification

“If something ‘isn’t too bad,’ that automatically means that is isn’t too good either.” ~ Elder L. Whitney Clayton

Idleness

“The Savior chooses His servants while they’re working. Satan chooses His servants while they’re idol/idle.” ~ Unknown
